The title “National Chief” is removed

Prior to the 1946 elections, CHP not only made election promises against DP, which was supported by various different segments of society, but it also executed changes within the party structure. In the Extraordinary Convention held on May 10-11, 1946, İnönü’s titles “National Chief” and “Unchanging General President” were removed. Instead, it was accepted that the party president would be elected for a term of four years. In addition, the “Independent Group,” founded with a view to supervising the government, was dissolved due to the transition into a multi-party system.
