Letter of consolation from son to father after the elections

Dear Father,

Early yesterday morning, I received a telegram from Ömer about the election results. The evening newspapers contained some information. It was written that you had been elected from Malatya but that the overall result was 150 against 300. I am very sorry. Despite your cautious expectations, I am sure it must have had a shocking effect. I hope that it is all over by now and that you are in better spirits.

I am not privy to the details, of course. One article read that the elections were held in impeccable order and a great majority had participated, which made me happy. That is the real achievement. After all, the absolute indication to the world of the existence of democracy in our country would be the uneventful and proper changing of a ruling party. Having achieved this indeed proclaims our greatest victory in these elections. Nothing else matters and nor should you worry.

It was predestined to experience opposition leadership for once. I am certain that would be enjoyable in a different way. May it do good for the country. I hope to God that the Democrat Party rule will not be a period of stagnation and we will not tumble on the toad to progress.

I wonder when the Grand National Assembly will convene; your troubles will not subside until then. I wish it would gather soon, so that you can get some rest. I will be happy to learn that you are resting comfortably and in good spirits.
