An exemplary wife

In his memoirs, İsmet Şnönü’s physician Prof. Dr. Zafer Paykoç notes the exemplary family life of İsmet İnönü and the redeeming qualities of his wife Mevhibe Hanım as follows:

Convalescing from an illness that forced him to stay in bed for an extended period, İsmet Pasha said to me one day, “Treasure your wife. No one else can care for you with such dedication and affection as your wife does.” These words beautifully expressed the appreciation and gratitude he had for his wife.

There is no doubt that the unique and exemplary family life İsmet Pasha led was not only the product of his appreciation, good will, love, respect, and politeness, but also the rare redeeming qualities of his wife.
