Young İsmet runs towards his future

Having graduated from the Military Junior High School, İsmet had enrolled in a civilian high school, as there was no Military High School in Sivas. Two years later; however, he left the school on July 31, 1897 and transferred to the third year of the Artillery School in Halıcıoğlu called Mühendishane-i Berri-i Hümayun (Land Engineering School).

After completing the first year of the Artillery School as the first in his class, young İsmet reported his success to his uncle in İzmir as follows: “I pulverized one of the years that constituted an obstacle between my future and I.”
