Who coined the title “National Chief?”
Based on the accounts of Haldun Derin, the person to come up with the titles “Eternal Chief” and “National Chief” may have been young journalist Mümtaz Faik Fenik or, according to another source, Minister of National Education Hasan Âli Yücel. Cumhuriyet newspaper founder Nadir Nadi, on the other hand, claims in an article that he suggested these titles.
In light of other information, it appears that İnönü was, in his own words, not “too enthusiastic” about being named “National Chief.” However, as he believed that his modesty in this regard would not bode well with the present political balance, he did not object to the title.
