İsmet Pasha’s rank is promoted to lieutenant general

İsmet Pasha’s rank was promoted to lieutenant general on August 31, 1922, immediately after the Battle of Dumlupınar. In the ceasefire negotiations to begin in Mudanya, İsmet Pasha represented the Turkish side with this rank.

Following the victory of Turkey in the Battle of Dumlupınar, the Allied States called on the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for a comprehensive ceasefire. Presided by Lieutenant General İsmet Pasha, the Turkish delegation comprised of Western Front Chief of Staff Asım Pasha (Gündüz), Lieutenant Colonel Tevfik (Bıyıkoğlu), Major Seyfi (Düzgören), Red Crescent Society President Hamid Bey (Hasancan), who worked as the representative of the Assembly in İstanbul throughout the war, and two secretaries. Chief of the General Staff Fevzi (Çakmak) and Refet (Bele) Pashas also went to Mudanya to assist the delegation if needed.
